Leon Woods Dillard, 94 of Green Castle, Missouri passed away on Sunday June 23, 2019.

He was born September 28, 1924 in Calico Rock Arkansas the son of Grace Lofton and Rupert Dillard. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carlos.

Leon graduated from Calico Rock High School the class of 1943. He was called to serve his country from 1943 to 1946 and was enlisted in the Army, serving in World War II. He was in the European Theater of Operations in London, England.

Leon was a well-known musician, carpenter, fence builder and enjoyed his hogs and cattle on the farm. He loved his music especially Merle Haggard. He was a charter member of the Green Castle, Lions Club, he helped organize the Green Castle Fire Department, served four years on the Green City School Board and six years on the Democrat Township Committee.

On November 3, 1949 he married Doris Smith who survives him and from this union four children were born. Carla and husband Allen True of Kirksville, Missouri, Darrell Dillard of Green Castle, Missouri, Russell Dillard of Green Castle, Missouri, and Sherry Dillard of Fairbanks, Alaska; five great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

A graveside service with complete military honors will be held at the Green Castle Cemetery on Wednesday evening June 26, 2019 at 6:00pm.

My Uncle Leon was a friendly, good looking, lovable man who always had a smile for me! He always made me feel special no matter how many years between the times we saw one another. I will always remember his smile! He loved to cut up and made me laugh. He holds a special place in my heart.
